Although it requires high amounts of moisture, it is fairly low in it's                                                                                                 maintenance needs. Height is variable, but the best specimens are over 6 or 8 feet.

Do not allow the soil to stay moist, but do not allow to dry                                                                                            completely. Great for smaller spaces, apartments, office reception areas etc.
Nephthytis (Syngonium) podophyllum...........'Berry Allusion', 'White Butterfly', etc - A very prolific grower, the Nephthytis is relatively easy to take care of when                                                                                       indoors. Available in small pots (4", 6", 8"), and in hanging baskets. Orchids assorted..................................................................Too numerous to list. Availablity often changes, depending upon supply, environmental conditions,                                                                                                                                and time of year.

Pothos..................................................................Epipremnum aureum - One of the most popular plants for use indoors in hanging baskets, or where a training effect                                                                                              is desired. Variegated green and yellow foliage provides a brightening effect. Also available with solid green                                                                                                 foliage, or with some white variegation rather than the yellow. Tolerant of low to high light, and prefers medium                                                                                             to high moisture.

Pachira glabra.....................................................Money Tree - Relatively new introduction to our region. Used indoors in the U.S., and as a landscape plant in Asia.                                                                                      Not much information is available to us about the growth habits of this plant in our region. Often it is sold as a novelty                                                                                  plant, usually 3 plants in a pot, braided. We have kept specimens growing in the greenhouse for several years, where                                                                                  they have attained a height of 6 feet and are still growing under indoor conditions. Medium moisture and light.
Pachypodium lamerei........................................Madagascar Palm - Technically this is not a palm, but a succulent. The growth habit, which is upright, gives the plant                                                                                  a 'palm' shape, hence the name. The trunk is covered in thorns, and the leaf is deep green, length up to 24 inches.                                                                                     This plant does have a white flower, although we have yet to see one reach this point.

Palm - Chamadorea elegans.............................Neantha Bella Palm - When used indoors, the Parlor Palm, as it is sometimes called, can be very long lasting.                                                                                           Medium moisture, light, and humidity are preferred. Do not allow the soil to stay moist, but do not allow to dry                                                                                            completely. Great for smaller spaces, apartments, office reception areas etc.
Palm - Chrysalidocarpus lutescens...................Areca Palm - This is what we consider the 'disposable' indoor palm. Prefers to be kept relatively moist, and in a                                                                                           higher light situation. Can experience some mealybug problems, which is easily enough treated with a systemic                                                                                         insecticde. We have found that many people are not able to keep this palm in the best of conditions. Keep well                                                                                           fertilized and watered in order to keep it as full as possible, but do not allow it to sit in water.
Palm - Dypsis decaryi .........................................Triangle Palm - The triangular shape of this palm gives it the name. Ususally it would prefer medium or high light, and                                                                                   even moisture. Take care to not let it sit in water, as it is not very tolerant of wet soils. This palm would do well in                                                                                        larger containers.
Palm - Howea fosteriana.....................................Kentia - One of the highest quality palms available. Prefers indirect bright light, tolerant of medium light. Prefers even                                                                                   moisture, avoid allowing it to dry out. Very slow growth rate translates to a high price tag, but also to a very long life                                                                                    span. This is the king of indoor palms.
Palm - Hyophorbe lagenicaulis.........................Bottle Palm - When used in the interiorscape, the Bottle Palm can be very nice if cared for appropriately.                                                                                                    Average moisture, without allowing the soil to dry out is best. Medium to high light is preferred. Scale insects                                                                                             are one of the few potential problems.
Palm - Hyophorbe verschaffeltii.........................Spindle Palm - Prefers medium to high light, and medium moisture. Tolerant of some time in dry soils. Best                                                                                               suited for large containers.
Palm - Phoenix roebellinii...................................Pygmy Date Palm - Prefers bright light, medium moisture. Allow to dry somewhat between waterings, do not let it sit                                                                                  moist. Available in several sizes. These make an excellent patio plant, or in an entrance, foyer, etc. Fine foliage                                                                                          texture can provide a feathery, light appearance.
Palm - Ravenea rivularis.....................................Majesty Palm - Prefers medium or high light, low to medium moisture levels. Light green foliage, and fine to medium                                                                                    foliage. Growth indoors can vary from slow to medium.
Palm - Rhapis excelsa........................................Lady Palm - A great choice for medium or low light situations, yet tolerant of high light or full sun. This palm is very                                                                                    tolerant of dry situations, although it prefers to be kept evenly moist. Deep green, deeply serrated foliage. Clumping                                                                                     habit. Growth to only about 8 feet, it is relatively slow growing. Typically if  purchased at 4 feet, for example, it would                                                                                   be many years before it reached full height, if at all, especially indoors.
Palm - Wodyetia bifurcata...................................Foxtail Palm - Prefers a bright light indoors, low to medium moisture requirements. Medium to deep green foliage.                                                                                      These palms provide a unique appearance, and are quite popular in larger settings, such as hotel or office lobby                                                                                         areas. They do particularly well when placed in a natural light situation.

Tolerates drought conditions,                                                                                       prefers medium moisture for the best growth. Tolerates low, medium or high light, relatively easy care requirements.                                                                                    Available in several varieties, some with light green foliage, some dark green, red variegation, white variegation,                                                                                           yellow variegation etc. Thick succulent type foliage.

Prefers low to medium                                                                                 moisture, and larger containers. Tolerant of low light, but would prefer medium to high light. This is an improved                                                                                           variety, that is better suited to the indoors than the species Philodendron selloum. These can attain a height of 6 or 8                                                                                  feet over several years, but to do so normally requires regular potting-up.
Philodendron 'Burle Marx'...................................Light green foliage, on a mounding/vining plant. Great in planters, containers, or hanging baskets. Tolerant of low or high light, but would prefer medium light levels.
Platycerium bifurcatum......................................Staghorn Fern - Usually available in a cedar wood slat hanging basket. This fern, although it does not look like a fern                                                                                   in the classic sense, tends to nned a host to grow on. It grows on and around the container (host), and can                                                                                                completely surround it. Best in a filtered light, away from direct sunlight. Does not need much water, but an                                                                                                occasional soaking in a bucket or a sink full of water, with some liquid fertilizer would be a help.

The                                                                                          foliage of this plant makes it goood to use in darker corners to brighten them. The D. reflexa is easily trainable to                                                                                        many interesting shapes and sizes. Tolerant of dryer soils, it would prefer medium, even moisture.

Polyscias fruticosa..............................................Aralia Ming - Very fine, elegant foliage, medium green. Typically available in smaller pots, although this can grow                                                                                        to be a beautiful large specimen. Rubber Plant, Variegated..................................Ficus elastica 'Sylvie' - A new twist to an old favorite. Light green foliage with white and pink variegation. A bit more                                                                                      fickle than the species Ficus elastica, it reacts poorly to over or under watering.
Rubber Plant..........................................................Ficus elastica 'Burgundy', 'Robusta' - Often reffered to as the 'Rubber Plant', this cultivar tolerates low and medium                                                                                      light situations better than the species F. elastica. Usually it will require a large container, and it does tend to take                                                                                      quite a bit of space. Tolerant of dry soil, although it is best to keep it evenly moist for the best performance.

S

Sansevieria assorted.........................................Sansevieria trifasciata - One of the most tolerant plants for the interiordcape. THis plant can tolerate drought  conditions very well,                                                                                         great for people who travel a lot, or tend to "forget" about watering their plants.

This is an improved variety of                                                                                                                  Schefflera actinophylla that is sterile, and does not produce seeds as the species does. Therefore it is not a problem                                                                                  if placed outdoors, in regards to being invasive. Large textured foliage is good to help fill larger spaces.
Schefflera arboricola...........................................Dwarf Schefflera - The full and fluffy growth habit of this plant makes it a good filler plant, where there is an area to fill.                                                                                 Typically it is kept as a rounded shape, but it can be trained into many shapes and sizes. Tolerant of dry or moist                                                                                       soils, low or high light. Do not allow to stay dry or wet for long periods. A very versatile plant for indoors.
Schefflera arboricola 'Dazzle'.............................'Dazzle' Variegated Schefflera - A relatively new introduction to the interior market. Developed specifically for use                                                                                          indoors. Very bright variegated foliage, and a larger leaf than the species Schefflera arboricola, but not as large as                                                                                      Scheff. actinophylla. Prefers moist potting media, but is tolerant of drying out, just make sure to soak thouroughly if                                                                                    it does get dry.
Schefflera arboricola 'Gold Capella'..................Variegated Schefflera - Some yellow variegation. Not as evident as S. arboricola 'Trinette', provides a darker green                                                                                        accent, with light splashes of yellow. Full growth habit, can be trained to many shapes. Tolerant of low, medium or                                                                                      high light situations.
Schefflera arboricola 'Luseanne'........................Arboricola Luseanne, Miniature Schefflera - Very full, compact growth habit. Shorter internodes that Sch. arboricola,                                                                                   which results in a much shorter growth habit and makes it more suitable for smaller pots and smaller spaces as it                                                                                      doesn't take up as much room. Easy care. This is a very under-utilised variety in Nassau. We highly recommend this                                                                                  plant for apartments or small living spaces. Very tolerant.
Palm - Veitchia merillii........................................Adonidia, Manila Palm, Christmas Palm - When used indoors, these prefer a relatively bright location. If located                                                                                          indoors in an area with low humidity, some spider mite problems may occur. To aid in prevention, try to provide                                                                                           more humidity by placing pebbles in a saucer under the pot, and keeping filled with water, but not so much that the                                                                                     soil stays in contact with the water.
Schefflera arboricola 'Trinette'............................Variegated Shefflera - Bright yellow variegation. Provides a bright yellow accent, with splashes of deep green. Very                                                                                     tolerant of moisture, heat, humidity, and light.
Schefflera elegantissima....................................False Aralia - Very fine foliage, lacy, serrated. The foliage is a burgundy color. When used in the interiorscape, may                                                                                    attract mealybug, or spidermite. Increasing humidity around the plant will help in the prevention of pest problems.                                                                                        Treat with a systemic insecticide to combat any existing problems. Often used when larger (5' or more), take on a                                                                                      very upright, vertical growth habit.

Available in many colors, reds, oranges, whites, peach, pinks. Use caution to not                                                                                    overwater. Can tolerate some dry periods. Reacts well to an ocassional application of a balanced fertilizer.
Song of India.........................................................Pleomele reflexa, Dracaena reflexa 'Song of India' - A versatile plant, tolerates low, medium or high light. The foliage                                                                                    of this plant makes it goood to use in darker corners to brighten them. The D. reflexa is easily trainable to many                                                                                         interesting shapes and sizes. Tolerant of dryer soils, it would prefer medium, even moisture.
Spathiphyllum spp..............................................Peace Lily - Best when used away from direct sunlight, tolerant of low light. Dark green foliage, clumping. White                                                                                          spath flower held above the foliage. Requires high amounts of moisture, relatively high nutritional needs. We                                                                                               recommend using a controlled release fertilizer, with ocassional additions of liquid fertilizer. Grows best in high                                                                                           quality potting media, does not tolerate poor quality soils. Yucca elaphantipes.......................................Yucca - A very hardy plant for the interiorscape. Low watering requirements, prefers to be allowed to dry some between                                                                               waterings. Do not allow to stay moist, as rot will quickly occur. Tolerates low to high light, slower growth will occur in                                                                                  lower light, so be especially careful to not overwater. Requires high light to flower, and will not do so until mature.
